Attention, fashion Nazis! Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent are coming to India

NEW DELHI: British luxury label Alexander McQueen and French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) are set to enter India through standalone stores next year, said multiple people aware of the development.

The first of these stores are likely to come up in DLF's Chanakya mall in Delhi. “There are plans to launch the two brands in Chanakya by the middle of next year,” one of the persons cited earlier said.

“A letter of intent has been signed between the brands and DLF and the lease deed is awaited," he added.



In India, Alexander McQueen products are available through multi-brand portals like Rock N Shop, while some products of YSL, also known as Saint Laurent, are available through other multi brand outlets. Both labels are part of luxury fashion house Kering’s portfolio of brands.

Designer Alexander McQueen’s eponymous label, founded in 1992, has stores in markets like the US, UK, France, the UAE, Turkey, Singapore, China, Italy, Japan, Austria, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Russian Federation. It retails ready-to-wear men’s and women’s apparel, besides bags, shoes and other accessories like wallets, scarves and jewellery.

In December 2000, Kering had acquired 51% in the company and appointed the designer as its creative director. Although McQueen committed suicide in 2010, Kering said the company would continue investing in the brand.


YSL, founded in 1961 by Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge, sells ready-to-wear men’s wear and women’s wear, leather goods, shoes, jewellery and eyewear. It has stores in markets like the US, UK, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Turkey and the UAE.

In the first half of 2018, Kering reported consolidated revenue of euro 6,432 million. While sales of YSL products were up 19.7% during this period on a comparable basis, Alexander McQueen reported faster pace of growth.
