LOS ANGELES: Actor Asa Butterfield and 'Modern Family' star Nolan Gould are reportedly eyeing to replace Andrew Garfield as superhero Spider-Man for the next instalment of the popular franchise.

Butterfield, 18, did express his interest in playing the webslinger.

"I'M SO DOWN!" the young star previously said on Reddit. He and Gould, 16, are facing competition from another teenage actor Mateus Ward ('Weeds',) who reportedly has auditioned for the part.

Spider-Man is rumored to appear in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" in May 6, 2016 before getting his own solo film later at Sony.

The still untitled new "Spider-Man" movie is expected to be helmed by Drew Goddard ('The Cabin in the Woods').
