Why did Imran Khan quit Bollywood?
While excitement around his comeback is high, one question has followed Imran for years: why did he quit Bollywood at a time when his career seemed secure? The actor had addressed this in detail in earlier interviews. In a past conversation with Film Companion, Imran spoke about his discomfort with the film industry’s increasing obsession with money. He explained that actors operate within a system dominated by publicity, brand value, endorsements and constant financial comparisons. According to him, success often began to be measured only by earnings - how much an actor charged per film, how much a movie made at the box office, or how lucrative public appearances were. Imran admitted that this mindset slowly began to affect him too, even though it was never the reason he was drawn to films in the first place.
He further shared that being surrounded by such a transactional environment made him question his creative satisfaction. Over time, he realised he was evaluating scripts and performances through numbers rather than passion.
The disappointment of Katti Batti also contributed to his decision, but Imran clarified that it was not a sudden exit. He described it as a slow realisation that unfolded over months and years. Eventually, he accepted that his heart was no longer fully invested in chasing acting opportunities.
What was Imran Khan's biggest paycheck?
Money, interestingly, was never the driving force for him. Speaking on Unfiltered by Samdish, Imran reflected on the sharp pay disparities early in his career. He revealed that while Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na was a home production, his next film, Kidnapp, paid him just Rs 5 lakh. Soon after, he was offered Rs 7–8 crore for another project, a jump that left him questioning whether his growth as an actor truly matched the sudden spike in remuneration.By his late twenties, Imran said he had earned far more than he ever imagined. He admitted that financial security came early, creating a sense of disconnect, especially when compared to friends outside the industry. In the same interview, the actor revealed that the biggest pay cheque of his career was Rs 12 crore.
Imran Khan is now set to return with Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, directed by Vir Das and backed by Aamir Khan Productions. The film also stars Vir Das, Mithila Palkar and Sharib Hashmi, with Aamir Khan making a cameo appearance. The movie is slated for release on January 16, 2026. Stay tuned!
