Veteran actor Dharmendra aka He-Man of Bollywood, was discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday morning after being under medical care. The 89-year-old actor, who has been entertaining audiences for over six decades, had been admitted following a brief health scare. But once the news of his recovery broke, fans didn’t just breathe a sigh of relief, they turned social media into a celebration filled with classic Sholay-inspired memes.

According to reports, Dharmendra was admitted to the hospital on October 31 after he complained of breathlessness. NDTV report stated that, Dr. Pratit Samdani, who supervised his treatment, confirmed that the actor was discharged around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday and will continue to receive treatment at home under family care.

An ambulance was spotted leaving the hospital early in the morning, which sparked curiosity among fans and media outlets. Within hours, the actor’s well-wishers flooded social media with prayers and good wishes.


Once fans learned that Dharmendra was safely back home, social media erupted in celebration. Twitter and Instagram were flooded with light-hearted memes, mostly inspired by his iconic film Sholay (1975). One viral post featured Basanti, played by Hema Malini, with the caption: "Basanti bhi taiyaar hai, isliye marna cancel." These memes shows both relief and affection for the legendary actor.

Others joined in with equal creativity, comparing him to the mighty Baahubali and calling him “Dharmendra Baahubali,” a nod to his undying strength and charisma. Fans affectionately wrote messages like, “Love you Dharamji, come home soon and do more movies,” while another fan posted, “Praying for your speedy recovery, Phaaji.”

However, on Tuesday (November 11), amidst genuine concern, several TV reports claimed that Dharmendra passed away and it led to a wave of panic until the actor’s daughter, Esha Deol, stepped in to set the record straight.

In a social media statement, Esha Deol assured fans that her father was “stable and recovering well.” She also requested privacy for the family and thanked everyone for their prayers and concern. “My father is doing fine. Please don’t believe in rumours,” she urged. Her clarification quickly went viral, putting an end to the misinformation.

During his hospital stay, Dharmendra received visits from close family members including Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol. Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, accompanied by his son Aryan, and Salman Khan were also seen visiting the veteran actor.

Even at 89, Dharmendra continues to be one of the most beloved figures in Indian cinema. His recovery brought immense joy not just to his family and co-stars, but to generations of fans who grew up watching his larger-than-life screen persona. Meanwhile, on the work front, he has Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, alongside Agastya Nanda and Simar Bhatia. The film is scheduled to release on 25 December 2025.
