As Delhi University welcomes new students, a girl student's dance video at DU freshers party went viral

Delhi University (DU) ushered in the 2024-25 academic year with a lively start as new undergraduate students arrived on campus for the first time on Thursday. The North Campus buzzed with excitement as thousands of students and their families made their way to the university's 69 colleges. This effort was part of DU’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for new students.

To ensure a warm and secure welcome, the campus was decorated with vibrant posters and anti-ragging campaigns. Police personnel were stationed outside to manage the crowds and prevent any incidents, while inside, senior students and volunteers greeted the freshers with chocolates and flowers.

This year, over 65,000 students have secured spots across more than 1,500 undergraduate programs at Delhi University, which offers a total of 71,600 seats. Admissions are still open, with a third round planned for performance-based programs and supernumerary quotas, including those for children and widows of armed forces personnel, extra-curricular activities, and sports. Students must finalize their college and course selections by August 30 via the Delhi University CSAS portal.

Student and Parent Reactions

According to PTI, Anjali, a new student in the BA (Hons) English program at Hansraj College, shared her excitement: “I am very happy to have finally made it to the college of my choice. I was quite tense when the CUET results were delayed. I was eager to start college life. My first impression of the college is good and I hope it continues to be so.”

Radha Saini, whose son Udhai Saini will study BA (Hons) Economics at Hansraj College, expressed her satisfaction, saying, “We are happy that our child has been admitted here. It’s a nice college and I hope he studies well.”

Last Year’s Viral Dance Performance

In a related note, last year’s Fresher’s Party at Delhi University also made headlines when a video of a student's dance performance went viral. The clip featured a student performing an energetic dance to the song "Chokra Jawaan" from the movie Ishaqzaade, dressed in an elegant saree. Posted on Instagram by user @ashima_gandhi on November 6, the video quickly gained popularity, amassing over 86,000 likes.


The performance received widespread praise online, with many viewers expressing their admiration. One user commented, “I’m watching it over and over and wishing this would happen to me just for once.” Another user humorously reflected, “How cool is this! Our college fest gave us anxiety issues.” The video continued to attract attention, with comments like, “You won the internet girl, superb.”
