Priyanka Chopra (L) shared a picture of herself wearing a mask on Instagram, while Shashi Tharoor (R) shared a quote on how the National Capital is becoming injurious to health.
There’s no denying that the National Capital of India has turned into gas chamber - as CM Kejriwal said - due to the ever-increasing pollution levels. On November 3, the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in parts of Delhi crossed the hazardous 999 mark. Earlier on Friday, a Supreme Court mandated panel declared a public health emergency in the region.
As citizens choke and struggle to get a breath of clean air, social media has been buzzing with users commenting on the urgent need to work towards protecting the environment, and advocating the use of masks to exercise caution. B-town celebs, too, joined the movement on social media.
On Sunday, actress Priyanka Chopra, who is in Delhi for the shooting of her upcoming film ‘The White Tiger’, shared a picture of herself wearing a mask, on Instagram.
“It’s so hard to shoot here right now that I can’t even imagine what it must be like to live here under these conditions”, Chopra wrote alongside the picture. The 37-year-old added that they were blessed to have air purifiers and masks, and urged people to be safe and also ‘pray for the homeless’.
Chopra had previously also advocated celebrating a ‘cracker-free Diwali’ in an advertisement where she also opened up about her struggle with asthma.

Another tinsel-town celeb who shared his no-holds-barred thoughts on pollution, was veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. The actor took to Twitter to share a quote which ended with the rhetoric, ‘you’re either in love, or in Delhi’.
The 67-year-old compared the symptoms of prolonged exposure to pollution, viz. palpitations, moist eyes and breathlessness with being in love.
While the quote itself was poetic, it showed the grim reality that the nation is struggling with.

Not just Bollywood, politician and the king of all-things-humorous, Shashi Tharoor, too, took to social media to share a tongue-in-cheek quote on the current situation, saying, Delhi is injurious to health.”
Tharoor’s tweet received mixed reactions. While some thought that he was being his usual witty self, others felt that he was politicising the issue.
