The top tier of Spain’s football league, La Liga, has returned with a new format aimed at strengthening the connection between its fan base in India and the holders of its broadcast rights in India. It was announced that the league will run ‘La Liga Ultimate Xpert’ contests till the end of the 2020-21 season, and will be organized on La Liga’s official Instagram page. Fans will be able to show off their knowledge of La Liga Santander on the social media platform, owned by Facebook, which incidentally holds the digital broadcast rights for La Liga in India.

“It is our constant effort to bring engaging and exciting content closer to fans, and never has it been so important for us to engage with our fans in newer ways. In a situation as difficult as the current one, fans will be able to learn about all Clubs and regions of Spain.

“We hope that these initiatives will further expand our fan base to a much larger and diverse audience and help us spread the happiness of football,” said Jose Antonio Cachaza, Managing Director, LaLiga India.

Lucky winners stand to receive official merchandise as well as a trip to Spain, once the travel restrictions are lifted. A separate draw will be held for the latter prize towards the business end of the 2020-21 season. Additionally, Indian fans can also win La Liga jerseys and Puma footballs, which are replicas of the matchday balls.

The contests will begin from Matchday 13 onwards and will continue till the end of the season. This online event will be held on the Instagram page of La Liga, and will be exclusively for football fans in India. Barcelona legend, Carles Puyol, has been roped in for the event.

Questions pertaining to all 20 La Liga teams will be asked by the league’s representatives – a motley bunch drawn from current players and club legends. Fans can watch videos of the contest and mention the official hashtag, #LaLigaUltimateXpert, along with their answers.
