Architectural wonders: From Singapore to Liverpool, these are fine examples of urban design

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
The architectural concept of Marina Bay Sands dons a complex look. The hotel towers appear to slope, but they stand on straight legs. The three towers are individual modules, but are unifi ed at ‘level 23’, and again, at the top of the towers by the SkyPark cantilever that’s 200 metres above the city. The 12,000 square metres area of the SkyPark is big enough to fi t more than four A-380 planes.

Flame Towers, Baku, Azerbaijan Flame Towers
An iconic trio of buildings overlooking the Baku Bay in the capital city of Azerbaijan, the small country by the Caspian Sea. The design found its inspiration in Baku’s history of fi re worship, which consists of three fl ame-shaped towers, set in a triangular shape. At night, the facades of the Flame Towers are turned into gigantic display screens with more than 10,000 LED luminaires.

Gate Towers, Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi
The Gate Towers is one of the largest downtown residential triple towers in Abu Dhabi. It is topped with a Penthouses Bridge, considered the highest of its kind in the world for a residential development.

Infinity, proposed at Liverpool, UK
It is a £250 million ‘triple towers’ residential project on the northern edge of Liverpool’s business district. It will have a ‘triple height luxury spa’, gym, pool and commercial space.
