Apple's smart home refresh is coming: a screen-equipped hub, new HomePod mini and Apple TV, and a camera that records nothing

Apple is done letting September do all the talking. Under new CEO John Ternus, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports the company wants to ship products faster and more often through the year. October is the first real test.

The split is already visible. September gave us the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and the new iPhone Duo. The base iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2 are now pencilled in for around March 2027.

The next stop is Tuesday, October 13. Gurman says Apple is planning an event to unveil its first smart home hub with a screen, a new HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV. All three put Siri AI at the core.

A smart home camera is expected to follow as the display's companion, with a twist. Gurman says it will record no video. It is meant to be an AI sensor that reads what is happening in your home, using technology similar to the rumoured camera-equipped AirPods. That is a privacy-first pitch, but a security camera that gives you no footage is a hard sell after a break-in.

Apple also has a track record to answer for. The hub was first aimed at spring 2025, then spring 2026, then slipped because Siri AI was not ready. The hardware is only as good as the assistant inside it. There is no word yet on India pricing or availability.

This segment is particularly interesting for the Indian market. Alexa+ just launched in India with better contextual understanding across multiple languages.

The product portfolio with Amazon is also quite massive.

Macbook refresh on the cards?

Then comes the end of the month. Gurman expects an M6 14-inch MacBook Pro and refreshed iMacs in October, in line with macOS 27.1 landing at month end. The OLED touchscreen MacBook is the bigger prize, but it is tipped for between end of 2026 and early 2027.
