Apple's RED iPhone 7, 7 Plus finally available for pre-order in India
NEW DELHI: Apple last month launched its PRODUCT RED iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus smartphone . At the time of the launch the Cupertino-based company announced the devices will hit the Indian shelves this month but the exact dates were not mentioned. Now, the handsets are up for pre-orders in India via the Croma website.

The website has started taking pre-orders for the 128GB and 256GB version of both the models. The iPhone 7 PRODUCT RED 128GB and 256GB are listed for Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000 respectively. The Plus variants are listed for Rs 82,000 and Rs 92,000 respectively.

Although the Croma listing does not reveal the shipping dates, for most of the pincodes in metro cities the website mentions that, "This product can be delivered to [PIN CODE] in 21 days. Free Delivery," indicating a month-end release.

This is for the first time that Apple has launched Red colour variant of its flagship phones. The company has been launching the Red colour models of its other products including the original iPod Nano and Beats products. Several iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch accessories too come in Red colour.

The new iPhones are part of the company's Red initiative, which funds programmes that combat HIV and AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

Besides the colour, everything else inside the handset stays the same. The iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, while the bigger iPhone 7 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch screen. Apart from that, other additions include a 12MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, 6-element lens, quad-LED flash, flicker sensor and more. The smartphones' cameras use an Image signal processor to apply machine learning, for distinguishing between humans and other object in the image, adjusting the brightness and noise levels accordingly.

It's worth noting that while iPhone 7 features a single 12MP rear camera, iPhone 7 Plus comes with a 12MP dual rear camera setup having 2x optical zoom capability. Both sport a 7MP FaceTime-enabled front camera for selfies and video chats.

The two smartphones are powered by Apple's new quad-core A10 Fusion chipset, with two high-performance cores and two high-efficiency cores. It's also claimed to be 50% faster than the A9 chipset, which powers the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus smartphones.
