Apple to finally launch MacBook with a touchscreen? What we know so far

Just days after it was reported that Apple is planning on producing its own in-house display screens for iPhones to cut reliability on third-parties such as Samsung and LG Corp., a new report suggests the tech giant is finally ready to launch Macs with touchscreens.
According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is working on making the display screens on MacBook responsive to touch. If the plan of introducing Macs with touchscreens goes through, then this will be a first for Apple.
The report doesn't confirm whether we will actually see the product in the market or not, but Gurman says that Apple could introduce a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen as early as 2025.
The upcoming MacBook Pro will most likely feature an OLED tech as opposed to the Mini LED displays that Apple features in its 14-inch and 16-inch models of MacBook, the report said, adding that the Cupertino-based iPhone-maker is currently testing the new tech, which is in relatively early stages, with engineers.
Though the thought of a MacBook with a touchscreen seems exciting and interesting, there's no guarantee that the tech will be launched officially. In the past, we have seen Apple shut down projects.
The first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen is likely to feature a traditional laptop design with a trackpad and a keyboard. However, the display is expected to gain support for touch input like an iPhone or iPad, a report by MacRumors said.
It is likely to use macOS, as the iPhone-maker is not actively working to merge iPadOS and macOS. If Apple goes ahead with these plans, it would represent a major philosophical change for the company as it has always dismissed the concept of a touchscreen Mac, the report added.
Meanwhile, a previous Bloomberg report said that Apple intends on using its own in-house display screens on iPhones from 2024.
