Apple likely to introduce body temperature monitoring feature in Watch Series 8

A smartphone is no longer merely a tool for communication, it has moved beyond calls. Similarly, smartwatches have redefined timekeeping. In 2022, smartwatches have become constant support in daily routines. From weather to fitness vitals, it monitors all. Timekeeping and tracking health have become inherent to smartwatches.

When it comes to innovations, the Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple, is the biggest disruptor in the field of smartwatches. Bespoke designs coupled with a user-intuitive interface and applications make it one of the most sought after watches among consumers.

Apple has been working towards bringing a body temperature monitoring feature to Apple Watch 7, however, owing to algorithm problems it was shelved. However, now it seems that the iPhone-maker may bring the feature to Apple Watch Series 8.

According to noted Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, the tech giant is likely to offer the body temperature monitoring feature on its upcoming Apple Watch Series 8. Kuo in a series of tweets explained that Apple had initially planned to add the body temperature monitoring feature on the Watch Series 7 models, however, the company dropped it after the body temperature algorithm failed to meet the standards before it was sent for engineering validation test last year.

The analyst believes that Apple Watch Series 8 will have the feature if it meets the algorithmic demands before it goes into mass production. The main problem cited reportedly is that skin temperature differs based on the environment. And, smartphones cannot monitor core body temperature using hardware, the feature will be highly dependent on an algorithm to produce accurate results. The analyst went on to say that South Korean smartphone giant Samsung to seems to be witnessing a similar kind of constraint.
