Apple Inc. has announced a series of environmental initiatives in India focused on renewable energy expansion, plastic waste reduction, and support for green entrepreneurship. The initiatives form part of the company’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its operations, supply chain, and product lifecycle by 2030.

The company’s latest efforts include an initial investment of INR 100 crore toward the development of renewable energy infrastructure in partnership with CleanMax, one of India’s renewable energy developers. According to Apple, the investment will help create more than 150 megawatts of additional renewable energy capacity, which the company says could supply electricity equivalent to the annual needs of approximately 150,000 Indian households.

The partnership is intended to support the scaling of renewable energy adoption across Apple’s supply chain in India. Apple and CleanMax have previously collaborated on rooftop solar projects that contribute to powering Apple’s offices and retail locations in the country using renewable energy sources.

In parallel, Apple is expanding its environmental work through collaborations aimed at improving waste management and recycling systems. Working with WWF-India, the company is supporting recycling and material recovery programs designed to reduce plastic leakage into ecosystems. The initiative builds on existing work with Saahas Zero Waste in Goa and is now being extended to additional regions, including Coimbatore.

The model focuses on establishing traceable systems for collecting, sorting, and recovering recyclable materials while incorporating environmental and social safeguards. Apple said the initiative also aims to strengthen local waste-management infrastructure and governance through collaboration with municipal authorities, waste workers, and local communities.

The company is also supporting sustainability-focused startups through a partnership with Acumen, a nonprofit impact investment organisation. The program will provide grants and operational support to six early-stage enterprises working in areas such as waste management, circular economy solutions, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable livelihoods.

The initiative includes mentorship, technical assistance, and strategic guidance intended to help participating ventures scale their operations. Apple has previously collaborated with Acumen on clean-energy-focused entrepreneurship programs in India.

Among the ventures highlighted by the company are Saptkrishi, which develops low-cost cold storage solutions for farmers, Yotuh Energy, which is working on electric refrigerated transport systems, and MOWO Fleet, which focuses on creating electric mobility opportunities for women drivers and entrepreneurs.

The announcements follow the release of Apple’s latest Environmental Progress Report, where the company stated that it has reduced global greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60 percent compared to 2015 levels while continuing to expand its business operations.
