Anupam Kher is one of the most respected actors in Indian cinema. Over the decades, he has delivered several memorable performances across films, television and theatre while constantly experimenting with new kinds of roles. Apart from his professional journey, the actor has often spoken about the importance of family in his life, especially his close relationship with his younger brother Raju Kher. Anupam once admitted that although he may be the more successful brother professionally, he considers Raju “greater” than himself because he never allowed success or fame to affect their bond.

Anupam Kher opens up about his bond with brother Raju

During an appearance on Zindagi with Richa, Anupam Kher opened up about his relationship with Raju and shared why the two brothers have remained close despite the pressures that often come with success. The veteran actor said siblings would rarely drift apart if they continued to remember the struggles and memories they shared while growing up together.

Recalling their early years, Anupam said he could never forget that both brothers came from the same background and struggled together before finding stability in life. He remembered asking Raju to leave his job in Shimla and move to Mumbai when he himself was trying to establish a career in the film industry. According to Anupam, those moments shaped their relationship forever.

The actor also praised his wife Kirron Kher for always supporting his bond with Raju. Anupam shared that many families face misunderstandings after marriage, especially when financial responsibilities are involved, but Kirron never questioned him about helping his brother. He credited her understanding nature for keeping the family united over the years.

Anupam also spoke about handling several financial responsibilities for Raju in the past. He recalled how, after the sudden death of his former manager Bhaskar Shetty, a colleague named Herman D’Souza temporarily started managing his work before eventually becoming a permanent part of the team. During that phase, Anupam said he used to sign cheques for his brother, the household and himself.

Sharing an emotional moment from that period, the actor revealed that he once firmly told his manager to never ask him how much money he gives his brother. For Anupam, supporting family was never something that needed explanation or justification. He explained that if life and success had blessed him, there was no reason not to share it with the people who had stood beside him since childhood.

Why Anupam Kher said Raju is 'greater' than him?

The actor became especially emotional while talking about Raju’s attitude towards his success. Anupam said, "The biggest thing is that my brother never developed a complex that I was more successful than him. That is truly a great quality. In fact, he is greater than me because he never felt jealous."
