London’s Stansted airport was named the second worst performing airport in a global survey recently, with only Kuwait International faring worse, and now we know why. In a bizarre new rule, the airport is banning passengers from sleeping on the terminal floor and has even brought in ‘anti-snooze’ patrols to wake people up every 10 minutes.

Warning signs have also been posted around the Essex airport asking travellers: ‘Please do not lay down on the seats.’ The new policy, brought in amid claims that passengers were camping at the airport, has sparked outrage among travellers catching early flights. The airport management believes there are around 600 people who sleep in the terminal overnight and they want this to stop. Some 26 million passengers used Stansted last year, 1.7 million more than the previous year.
