Buying a house is no small deal. Months of planning, calculating financial risks and careful research are important. From arranging a home loan and saving for the down payment to choosing the right location, property size and budget, buying a property requires both financial stability and long-term planning. Not long ago, entrepreneur, digital creator and author Ankur Warikoo shared a post on Instagram revealing why he decided to buy a house at 40 and not 25 or 30. The 45-year-old listed 3 reasons for the same.

Why 40 brought more life certainty

For the unversed, Ankur Warikoo is married to Ruchi Warikoo and the duo share 2 kids together - son Vidur and daughter Uzma. The entrepreneur revealed that by the time he reached 40, he was certain that he and his family wanted to live in Delhi permanently.

On the contrary, Warikoo stated that having such clarity is impossible to attain when you are in your early 30s. He noted that during that time, an individual has much flexibility and is prone to changing cities or even countries for work or other purposes. But by 40, one has much more certainty about their long-term priorities.

Financial stability made it easier

Secondly, Warikoo revealed that by the time he turned 40, he was financially stable enough to afford the home he wanted. His and his wife’s income and savings reached a stage where managing both the down payment and monthly EMI was feasible. At 25 or 30, the same property would have been beyond their budget, making it more sensible to wait rather than compromise on the home he wanted.

Being mature with age

Thirdly, Warikoo admitted that reaching 40 helped him understand exactly what kind of home, locality and neighbourhood suited his family. With the responsibility of children and a more settled lifestyle, the entrepreneur had a clearer idea of the apartment, locality and surroundings he wanted. In his view, such preferences are harder to determine when life is still changing rapidly in your 20s and 30s.

In conclusion, Warikoo noted that an individual is driven by the fast pace of life in their 20s and 30s. They are still figuring things out, making it difficult and often premature to make such a big commitment like buying a house.
