Ananya Birla, Jayanti Modi to debut at le Bal in Paris

The annual event, started in 1992, sees 20 young women and 20 men from renowned families across the globe.

Ananya Birla, Jayanti Modi to debut at le Bal in Paris
Le Bal des Débutantes, popularly known as le Bal, the annual debutante ball held in Paris every year in November, will see two Indian faces this year — Ananya Birla and Jayati Modi.

The annual event, started in 1992 by Ophélie Renouard, sees 20 young women and 20 men from renowned families across the globe gather at the Peninsula Hotel in Paris. Ananya, daughter of industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and Neerja Birla, will reportedly wear Azzedine Alaia at the gala event. Jayati, daughter of entrepreneur Sameer Modi, is expected to turn out in Vivienne Westwood Couture.

“I’m excited but nervous too,” Jayati says. “It’s a once in a lifetime event... I’m really looking forward to le Bal. I think it is going to have a very big impact on my life. I hope to build relationships that carry forward.”

Jayati studies entrepreneurship and film at Brandeis University in Boston. She has one year of college left to complete. “I’m considering going to acting school or interning in an entertainment business corporation post college,” she says.

Ananya recently launched her debut single last week.

Last year, Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda — daughter of businessman Nikhil Nanda and his wife Shweta, was to attend the event, but cancelled at the last minute, owing tothe terror attacks in Paris, two weeks before le Bal.
