Ananthan Kaadu OTT release date confirmed: When and where to watch Arya starrer Malayalam-Tamil action thriller

Arya’s Malayalam-Tamil action thriller Ananthan Kaadu is now heading to the digital space after its theatrical run earlier this year. Directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar and written by Murali Gopy, the film is set around a politically unsettled period and follows a group of men whose lives get caught up in violence, survival and local power struggles.

Ananthan Kaadu will start streaming on September 2, 2026. The digital premiere comes a little over two months after the film opened in theatres on June 25.

The film is also expected to be available through a multi-platform release. Prime Video, Lionsgate Play and Manorama Max are listed for audiences in India, while Simply South is set to stream the film internationally, excluding India.

What is Ananthan Kaadu about?

The story of Ananthan Kaadu is set mainly around the late 1980s and early 1990s, against a backdrop of political and social unrest. It follows four men from poorer parts of a state capital, whose involvement in violent activities becomes closely linked to their attempts to survive and gain influence.

The film also brings music into the lives of these characters, even as they find themselves pulled deeper into violence and political affairs. Their circumstances eventually connect them to wider struggles involving power, identity and control.

Another important part of the story is the arrival of a Sri Lankan Tamil rebel, with the local men joining forces with him against a common enemy. The film is set against 1990s Thiruvananthapuram and uses the period setting as part of its larger story.

Arya leads the cast

Arya plays the central role in Ananthan Kaadu, with the actor portraying a Sri Lankan Tamilian. The film has a large supporting cast that includes Indrans, Sunil, Nikhila Vimal, Regina Cassandra, Siddique, Ajay, Bose Venkat, Dev Mohan, Renji Panicker, Anjali P Nair, Santhy Balachandran, Achyuth Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, Sagar Surya, Alsyn Benny and Sarath Appani.

Jiyen Krishnakumar has directed the film, while Murali Gopy has handled the writing. The two had previously worked together on Tiyaan, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Indrajith Sukumaran.

S. Yuva is the cinematographer and Rohit V. S. Variyath is the editor. B. Ajaneesh Loknath has composed the music.

Ananthan Kaadu was released in cinemas on June 25 and received mixed reviews. The film attempts to bring together action, politics and questions around identity and displacement.
