Brazil has concluded its high-octane presidential election. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeated the incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in a grueling second round of voting.

The new president of Brazil has been congratulated by world leaders. India’s prominent industrialist Anand Mahindra, who is known for his unique perspective on current affairs, took to his Twitter account to congratulate Brazil’s new president.

The 67-year-old business tycoon shared a throwback picture of him with President Lula. The picture is from the time when Mahindra hosted Lula in India in 2003. Mahindra was serving as the president of CII when he hosted Lula. The business tycoon called the president a people’s man and a fascinating storyteller.

“The election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva @LulaOficial as Brazil’s next President rekindled warm memories of having hosted him in India in 2003 while I was President of CII. A people’s man, he was a fascinating storyteller, full of tales of his life-experiences & struggles,” read Mahindra’s tweet.
After his victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the leader on Monday. PM Modi in his tweet said that he was looking forward to working closely with President Lula to further deepen and widen bilateral ties between India and Brazil.
Meanwhile, in October, Mahindra had also hailed the appointment of 42-year-old Indian origin politician, Rishi Sunak as the prime minister of the UK.

The billionaire in his tweet recalled Winston Churchill's words when India was at the cusp of Independence in 1947 - "…all Indian leaders will be of low calibre and men of straw." The Mahindra Group Chairman said he was proud to see an Indian-origin man anointed as the PM of the UK on the country's 75th year of Independence.
