Anand Mahindra shares an emotional and heartfelt tribute to martyred Indian soldiers WWI.
Mahindra Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra gave a heartfelt tribute to Indian soldiers who were martyred during WW1. Taking to X, the businessman reshared a video of France’s President, Emmanuel Macron, which showed Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi at Mazaargues War Cemetery, Marseille and paid homage to those soldiers who died for the country in World War I and World War II.

Anand Mahindra reshared the video and wrote, “The heart weeps for these courageous Indian soldiers who were fighting a war on behalf of unwanted rulers. To add insult to injury, their sacrifices were never widely acknowledged. Western filmmakers ignored their contributions in almost every war film they made…It is good to see them back on the world’s radar screen.”

Speaking of the video which Anand Mahindra shared, the France President posted it with a caption that highlighted the significant role Indian soldiers played in France during 1914, acknowledging their immense sacrifice. He noted that over 100,000 Indians fought for France, with 10,000 never making it back home. He shared that these soldiers first arrived in Marseille before heading to the trenches, unaware that they were walking into their final battle. Finally, he added, “Their sacrifice binds France and India forever.”

Internet reacts

One user emphasized that while history may have overlooked these Indian soldiers, their bravery remains unquestionable. They fought with extraordinary courage, yet their sacrifices were buried in forgotten stories. Now, the world must finally acknowledge their contributions—recognition may have been delayed, but it should never be denied. Another pointed out that these soldiers were compelled to fight for rulers who never truly valued them. For years, their sacrifices were erased, and their heroism was ignored, particularly in Western films. However, after being pushed into the background for so long, they are finally receiving the acknowledgment they have always deserved.
