Man builds vehicle from scrap for son, Anand Mahindra lauds 'resourcefulness' and offers a Bolero

The Mahindra boss is known for sharing unique stories with the world. Recently, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, shared a short video of a man who created a four-wheeler from scrap metal.

In the tweet, the man from Maharashtra can be seen demonstrating his creation. The man identified as Dattatraya Lohar, despite his scarce education, reportedly built the four-wheeler from scratch. According to the YouTube channel Historicano, Lohar created the vehicle for his son.

Mahindra who spotted the ingenious creation was quick to tweet his appreciation and share it with his followers. He lauded the inventiveness behind the idea ‘more with less’ in his tweet and appreciated the ability of Indians to make the most of every situation.


The business tycoon, while appreciating people’s passion for mobility, also highlighted the resemblance of the vehicle’s grill to Mahindra’s Bolero.

“This clearly doesn’t meet with any of the regulations but I will never cease to admire the ingenuity and ‘more with less’ capabilities of our people. And their passion for mobility—not to mention the familiar front grille,” tweeted Mahindra.
Nearly 20,000 people liked the tweet and thousands of them shared Mahindra’s sentiments in their responses to the tweet.

In a related tweet, Mahindra later lamented the possibility of local authorities prohibiting the man from plying the vehicle on the streets due to the constraints posed by regulations. However, the billionaire businessman offered to personally accord the man a Bolero - from the Mahindra stable - in exchange. While praising resourcefulness, he went on to say that the extraordinary creation can be exhibited at the Mahindra Research Valley.

“Local authorities will sooner or later stop him from plying the vehicle since it flouts regulations. I’ll personally offer him a Bolero in exchange. His creation can be displayed at MahindraResearchValley to inspire us, since ‘resourcefulness’ means doing more with less resources,” read his tweet.
The video on the unique vehicle continues to garner attention on social media.
