Anand Mahindra hopes Arjun Tendulkar will 'preserve' Sachin's legacy, celebrates MI player's first IPL wicket

Mumbai Indians player Arjun Tendulkar, who marked his Indin Premiere League (IPL) debut on Sunday, achieved another milestone on Tuesday when he picked his maiden wicket and helped his team with a 14-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Tendulkar Jr's first IPL wicket caught billionaire Anand Mahindra's attention on Wednesday.

Celebrating his new milestone, the Mahindra Group Chairman said that he was one of the millions of Indians who cheered for the 23-year-old.


In his post, the 67-year-old said that Arjun's legendary cricketer-father Sachin Tendulkar's cricket achievements, humility and graciousness make the MI player's maiden achievement like a personal victory. He said he hopes the younger Tendulkar is successful in preserving his father's legacy.

"I cheered — along with millions of Indians — for Arjun Tendulkar when he breached this milestone (of first IPL wicket). That’s because of our affection for Sachin Tendulkar based not just on his cricketing feats but his humility & graciousness. That is also a huge legacy which I hope Arjun will preserve," his tweet read.


After Arjun's maiden IPL wicket, the Master Blaster took to social media to celebrate.

The proud father, who also played in the IPL for six years with businesswoman Nita Ambani's franchise, appreciated his son's and MI's hat-trick of wins. "A superb all-round performance by Mumbai Indians once again. Cameron Green was impressed with both bat & ball. Ishan & Tilak's batting is as good as it gets! The IPL is getting more interesting every day. Great going boys! And finally, a Tendulkar has an IPL wicket," he wrote.


Tendulkar Sr also found some time to reply to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was thrilled to see his friend's son play his maiden IPl match. "There are gold threads in both, MI & KKR jerseys, but your heart is 100% gold, Shah Rukh! Thank you so much for your warm wishes," Sachin tweeted.


The 49-year-old also thanked former cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan, and actor Abhishek Bachchan.





Arjun marked his IPL debut in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), owned by SRK, at the Wankhede Stadium. With this, the Tendulkars became the first father-son pair to have featured in the tournament and the same team.
