In India, a standard 'charpai' made with wooden frame and ropes is priced under Rs 1,000.

The news caught Anand Mahindra's attention.

The Mahindra Group Chairman called the humble ‘charpai’ an iconic design that is elegant and comfortable. "It embodies 'sustainable' design," he wrote.

The discovery of the four-legged cot made the 66-year-old business tycoon question, "I wonder why it took so long for the world to discover it."
