An uncanny resemblance: Katy Perry says she used to pretend to be Zooey Deschanel to get into clubs

Perry and Russell Brand used to be the ‘it’ couple back in 2010. The British comedian had proposed to the singer outside Taj Mahal in Agra in December 2009, and after dating for almost a year, the two tied the knot in a private ceremony in Rajasthan’s Ranthambore, India in October 2010.

The private wedding ceremony was attended by the closest family members, and was a Desi affair with a pandit chanting mantras and performing traditional rituals.

Their reception party had an ‘East meets West’ theme and featured performances from Indian classical dancers and hip-hop star P. Diddy.

After more than a year of marriage, the couple decided to call it quits in December 2011, when Russell filed for a divorce.

Perry’s love for Indian culture often reflects in her wardrobe. She walked the red carpet at the 2010 Grammy Awards, the biggest night in music, in a beautiful beige ensemble and a vibrant, colourful bindi, along with her then husband Russell Brand.

It won’t be wrong to say that the ‘Teenage Dream’ of Indian ‘KatyCats’, as Perry delightfully calls her fans, came true when the pop sensation performed at the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Perry grooved on her hit songs ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Last Friday Night’, ‘The One That Got Away’, among others, at the YMCA College Of Physical Education Grounds, Chennai. She went for a desi look, and slayed in shiny pink lowers with sequined work. She completed her look with a blingy choli, maang tika and multiple bindis.

Be it Miley Cyrus performing Lakshmi Pooja or Lady Gaga exploring Sanskrit shlokas, the celebs from the West have always expressed their adoration for all things Indian. However, Katy Perry’s love for India runs deeper.

Back in 2017, the ‘Firework’ songstress had posted a picture of the Hindu goddess Kali on Instagram and captioned it ‘current mood’. Perry was alluding to the demon goddess’ attire with skulls hanging around her neck.

The post garnered more than 291,000 likes and 11.9k comments.

Katy Perry is no stranger to eccentric fashion choices. The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ hitmaker went to the Met Gala this year, dressed as a human chandelier in an outfit by Moschino’s Jeremy Scott. Just Sul, an Indian influencer known for recreating celebrity looks, posted his own version of the ensemble.

The video showed Sul dressed as a chandelier. As the camera zooms in on his face, he says, ‘I’m Katy Curry b***es’. Katy, who shares a special bond with India and Indian culture, reposted the video on Instagram with caption ‘Man, that’s tique-ka masala’.
