An advice from Harayana shooter Suruchi Singh's mother helped her turn pressure into Asian Games gold

Suruchi Inder Singh from India won the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the Asian Games. She was joined by fellow Indian shooter Kamaljeet. Together, the duo accounted for an Asian record score of 484.6 in the final. The pair displayed precision and consistency in the high-pressure final, finishing at the top of the standings. Their 484.6 score not only secured the gold medal but also set a new Asian record of 481.3. It was formerly set by Uzbekistan's Mukhammad Kamalov and Nigina Saidkulova in February.

Haryana shooter Suruchi Singh’s mother’s advice

Suruchi Singh has now revealed that she was able to hold her nerve only because of her mother, who gave her a million-dollar piece of advice. The 20-year-old from Haryana revealed that previously, she had a lot going on in her mind, but now her strategy has changed.

The young shooter said that despite the intense pressure and the need for absolute accuracy in the sport, she avoids thinking about her competitors while aiming at the target. Instead, Suruchi keeps her attention firmly on her own performance.


Suruchi credited this mindset to the guidance of her mother, whom she considers one of her biggest role models. That advice has helped her remain composed and focused through the highs and lows of her shooting journey. ‘I never think about other players when I’m facing a target. I focus only on myself,’ she said in a conversation with India Today.

All about the Asian Games and Suruchi Singh

Suruchi and Kamaljeet beat South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who clinched silver with 478.0. Meanwhile, Iran’s Vahid Golkhandan and Haniyeh Rostamiyan bagged bronze with 415.8. On the other hand, Indonesia’s Darmoyo A. and Prabowo M. finished fourth with 349.4.

Previously, Suruchi and Kamaljeet broke the Asian Games Qualification Record with a score of 587 (29 inner 10s). They went past the earlier record of 577 set by another Indian duo, Sarabjot Singh and Divya Subbaraju, in Hangzhou 2023. That’s not all. Their qualification tally also equalled the Asian Record, matching the feat achieved by Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker in 2021.

Suruchi’s incubation period started when she was only 13. The shooter gained international fame 6 years later in 2025 with 3 back-to-back gold medals at the ISSF World Cup in the 10 m air pistol events, pushing Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker to second place. This came after topping the national trials in 2024.
