Comedian and actress Amy Schumer is known for her unfiltered honesty, and her latest revelation about Ozempic is no exception. While the so-called "miracle" weight-loss drug helped her shed 30 pounds, the cost was more than she was willing to pay—leading her to abandon it altogether.
Schumer, 43, recently sat down with Howard Stern for a candid conversation about the growing craze surrounding weight-loss injections like Ozempic and Wegovy. Though the Trainwreck star admitted the drug initially helped her slim down, she also revealed the disturbing side effects that made her quit.
"I tried Ozempic almost three years ago, and I was bedridden," Schumer admitted. "I was vomiting, I had no energy—I couldn’t even lift my head off the pillow. So, what’s the point?"
Her experience was so extreme that it started affecting her daily life, especially her relationship with her five-year-old son, Gene. "He’d ask me to play tag, and I’d have to say, ‘I can’t.’ I was shriveling," she recalled.

The Hidden Gene That Made Ozempic a Nightmare
Schumer later discovered a shocking reason for her extreme reaction—she carries a genetic marker called GDF15, which makes individuals highly prone to nausea. She realized this was the same gene that had made her pregnancy so difficult.
While some people take Ozempic and feel fine, Schumer found the tradeoff unbearable. “Other people take it, and they’re all good—God bless them,” she said. “But for me? Never again.”
Schumer isn’t alone in her struggle. The explosive popularity of Ozempic and similar drugs has triggered a wave of reports about severe side effects. Originally approved by the FDA in 2017 to treat type 2 diabetes, semaglutide-based medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have now become the hottest off-label weight-loss solution.
With a staggering 15 million adults—6% of the U.S. population—taking these medications, the industry is booming. However, so are concerns about potential risks.
Despite her ordeal, Schumer isn’t warning others away from the drug—she acknowledges that for some, it works. But her story serves as a stark reminder that trendy weight-loss solutions aren’t one-size-fits-all.
For those considering Ozempic, the message is clear: the results may be dramatic, but so can the side effects. As Schumer found out the hard way, looking "great" isn’t worth it if it means feeling miserable.
