When Amruta Fadnavis's played tennis barefoot
Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of the Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, has an emotional bond with tennis. “I played the game when I was growing up in Nagpur. My father still plays and my daughter also takes lessons,” Fadnavis said last week in Mumbai, after being named the patron for the India-New Zealand Davis Cup tie in Pune in February. “In fact the other day I was at the courts to pick up my daughter, and I felt like playing. But I wasn’t wearing tennis shoes so I hit some balls barefoot.”

At the Davis Cup announcement, though, her striking Zara shoes couldn’t be missed. Asked about her childhood tennis idol, she said, “Andre Agassi.” Unfortunately, she couldn’t meet him during his recent Mumbai visit.
