Amitabh Bachchan shares his Jaya Bachchan 'trick' for late-night returns. Megastar reveals how he handles household chores when there is no domestic help

After more than two decades of asking contestants to answer tricky questions on Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan recently found himself answering one that was far more personal. On the latest episode of the popular quiz show, contestant Preetiraj asked the megastar about his wife, Jaya Bachchan. The conversation soon moved from late-night returns to dinner and household chores, with Amitabh sharing some amusing details about life at home.

Amitabh Bachchan reveals his trick to avoid Jaya's scolding

Amitabh Bachchan has been associated with Kaun Banega Crorepati for more than 25 years. While the show is primarily known for its questions, contestants and dramatic moments, the actor often shares stories from his personal life as well.

This time, Preetiraj turned the tables on the veteran actor with a question about Jaya Bachchan. Amitabh then revealed the small habit he follows whenever he knows he will return home late after a shoot.


The actor explained that he makes it a point to inform his family beforehand. He said their family members have a group saved on their phones, and he sends a message to everyone telling them that he has a shoot and will be late. He also asks them not to wait for him for dinner.

According to Amitabh, giving Jaya advance notice helps him avoid being questioned when he eventually reaches home. He joked that if he fails to inform her, he knows exactly what awaits him, questions about where he was and why he did not tell anyone that he would be late.

He also shared that when he is extremely late, Jaya simply has her dinner and goes to bed instead of waiting for him.

Big B says he does household chores when help is unavailable

The conversation did not stop with Amitabh's late-night routine. The actor also opened up about what happens at home when domestic help is not available.

Amitabh said, "Whether there are four, eight, or 10 staff members, when there is no one at home, I do all the work myself. I take care of the cleaning and everything. I don’t know how to cook, so sometimes we order food from outside, or sometimes I ask Jaya, ‘Deviji, please make something.’ That makes her very excited, and she makes different dishes for me every day and asks how I liked the food.”

However, there is one household task he admitted he cannot handle well, cooking.

Amitabh said he does not know how to cook, so there are times when he orders food from outside. On other occasions, he turns to Jaya and asks her to prepare something for him.

He also spoke warmly about Jaya's reaction when he asks her to cook. According to the actor, she gets excited about preparing different dishes and later asks him how he liked the food.

Amitabh and Jaya have been married since 1973

For the unversed, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri got married on June 3, 1973, in a private ceremony in Mumbai. The couple tied the knot shortly after the success of their film Zanjeer. Their wedding took place before a planned trip to London, following advice from Amitabh's father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

Over the years, Amitabh and Jaya have worked together in several films and have remained one of Hindi cinema's most recognised couples. While both have maintained successful careers, Amitabh's anecdotes about their relationship often give fans a glimpse into their life away from the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Amitabh continues to balance television and films. He is currently hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18 and is also working on the sequel to his sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD.
