Amitabh Bachchan donates Rs 51 lakh for Assam flood victims, encourages fans to contribute 'generously'

Assam has been facing the wrath of a flood for over 10 days now. The rising death toll in the state has crossed 170, and millions have been affected. The dire situation in the state has led to people from all parts of the country coming forward to offer assistance. Bollywood stars, too, are extending support by donating funds towards the relief efforts, and also urging fans to do the same.

Amitabh Bachchan is the latest celebrity to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to thank the 76-year-old for his support and donation of Rs 51 lakh.

Appreciating the 'Sholay' star's gesture, he wrote, "We appreciate Shri Amitabh Bachchan ji for contributing Rs. 51 lakh to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This is a great gesture & show of care for the people. Thank you, on behalf of the people of Assam, for your support. @SrBachchan."



Quoting the CM's tweet, the Big B encouraged fans to contribute generously, "Assam is in distress .. the floods have caused great damage .. send care and assistance for our brothers and sisters .. contribute generously to the CM Relief Fund .. I just did .. HAVE YOU ..?"


Earlier last week, Akshay Kumar had donated Rs 2 crore towards the relief fund. Sprinter Hima Das, who recently bagged her fifth gold in a month, contributed half of her one-month salary for the victims.


On the work front, Bachchan Sr. is currently shooting for Shoojit Sircar’s 'Gulabo Sitabo' in Lucknow. The film also stars 'Article 15' actor Ayushmann Khurrana.
