Amicable separation for Peter Mukerjea and Indrani on the cards?
The decision to end his marriage to wife Indrani was taken by former media tycoon Peter Mukerjea in January itself. But his lawyer says there has been no movement on the divorce proceedings.

Instead the couple will separate amicably and after taking in account certain legal and financial issues.

“Most of what they own is joint property. Therefore, they will work out an arrangement to end the marriage,” said Mihir Gheewala, lawyer for Mukerjea. “He decided in January itself that this marriage is a sinking ship and he doesn’t want to continue it. Basically, he felt there was nothing left for them in this,” says Gheewala.

Reportedly, it took 40 letters from Indrani and her birthday as an occasion for Mukerjea to respond to her with one letter. Indrani, who has been behind bars for close to a year now, was arrested with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and stands accused of the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora.

Mukerjea was made a co-accused in the case in November. Indrani, who has not applied for a bail plea, according to Gheewala, remains at Byculla’s women’s jail while Mukerjea is lodged at Arthur Road jail. The latter’s bail plea is up for hearing on July 7.
