Alpha OTT release details
Although Yash Raj Films has not officially confirmed the digital release date, Alpha is expected to premiere on Netflix after completing its theatrical run. Like several previous YRF releases, the film is likely to follow a theatrical-first release strategy before arriving on the streaming platform. For now, audiences can watch the film only in theatres. The exact OTT release timeline is expected to be announced by the makers once the film completes its box office run.
According to Mid-Day and Variety, reports had earlier claimed that Netflix offered around Rs 215 crore to acquire Alpha for a direct OTT release without a theatrical launch. However, Yash Raj Films reportedly turned down the offer and decided to stick to its long-standing policy of releasing its major films in cinemas first.
The reports also stated that the production house dismissed speculation that Alpha would skip theatres, saying the film was designed for the big-screen experience. YRF reportedly believed the rumours unfairly targeted a female-led action film and remained confident that audiences would support the project just as they had previous films from the spy universe.
Mixed audience reactions after release
Since its release, Alpha has received a mixed response on social media. Many viewers have appreciated Alia Bhatt's dedication to the physically demanding role, while Sharvari has also earned praise for her confident screen presence and action sequences. At the same time, several viewers have criticised the screenplay, story progression and pacing, with some calling it one of the weaker films in the YRF Spy Universe. A few social media users even described it as "OTT material," saying it lacked the emotional depth and scale they expected from the franchise.
Despite the divided opinions, Hrithik Roshan's cameo as Kabir has emerged as one of the biggest highlights of the film. Bobby Deol's performance as the antagonist has also been widely appreciated, along with the film's stylish visuals, action choreography and large-scale set pieces.
Produced by Yash Raj Films, Alpha stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, and marks the first female-led chapter in the studio's expanding spy universe. Until its Netflix premiere is officially announced, the film will remain available exclusively in theatres.
