Hyderabad police have filed a case against Telugu actor Allu Arjun, his security team, and the management of Sandhya Theatre in connection with the tragic death of a woman during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, left a 35-year-old woman, Revathi, dead and her 13-year-old son, Sreethej, hospitalized due to asphyxiation caused by overcrowding at the theater.

Case Details

According to PTI, the case was registered at the Chikkadpally police station under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) (intentionally causing hurt or grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police confirmed that the complaint was lodged by Revathi’s family.

The tragedy unfolded as large crowds gathered at Sandhya Theatre to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun, who made a surprise appearance at the premiere. Authorities revealed that neither the theater management nor the actor’s team had informed police about the visit, nor were additional security arrangements made. "There was no separate entry or exit for the actors, despite prior knowledge of their arrival," said Station House Officer (SHO) B. Raju Naik.

The situation escalated when Arjun arrived with his personal security. The crowd surged toward the theater entrance, leading to suffocation and chaos. Witnesses reported that the actor’s security team began pushing the crowd, worsening the already tense situation.

Victim's Condition and Investigation

Revathi and her son were caught in the rush and fell unconscious due to lack of air. Police on duty intervened, performing CPR on the boy and rushing them to Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital. While the son is under observation, Revathi was declared dead upon arrival. A hospital statement attributed the boy's critical condition to “prolonged unresponsiveness, likely causing severe hypoxia and potential lung injury.”

Officials are investigating the roles of the theater management, the actor’s team, and security personnel in failing to prevent the overcrowding. The police emphasized the importance of proper planning during high-profile events to avoid such tragedies.
