All in a name! Harpreet Singh on moving past the case of mistaken identity and making it to the RCB team

Cricketer Harpreet Singh, who lost out on an IPL spot during the auction in February, has now been offered a spot in the Bengaluru team. The all-rounder has been roped in as a replacement for an injured Sarfaraz Khan for the remainder of IPL 2017. Harpreet was confused for Harmeet Singh, another cricketer who rammed his car into a train station’s platform in Mumbai, unfortunately, right on the day of the auction.

Social media ire against Harmeet Singh and the confusion around his name, apparently cost Harpreet a chance to be chosen for the IPL teams then.

However, now that it’s all falling into place, an elated Harpreet tells ETPanache, “I was really disappointed then. But, it has been covered up now. The RCB team manager recently asked me to come to Bangalore.” Speaking about the name mix-up, the 25-year-old says, “As a sportsperson, you can’t feel down, you have to be confident. I had to rectify a few things in my game, so I went back to domestic cricket. Now I am ready. I can’t wait to be on the field and play with the team,” he says.
