Corporate boardrooms may be diversifying, or at least attempting to do so lately. But when it comes to family businesses, some seem to have missed the bus.

This is not a generalisation, but an observation from an event organised by an exclusive membership network for UHNWIs, family business promoters and their family offices last year. Interestingly, only six women marked their presence.

In another such conference in April on the Indian family business, women’s participation saw an uptick, with 16 attending it. However, that was only because delegates were asked to bring the women in their family, irrespective of whether they were part of the business.

The organisers clearly seem to have noticed the limited pool of female attendees and are keen on righting it. They’ve aptly titled their next event as ‘Investing wealth for women in the family business’.
