There were many classic showstoppers at a recent vintage car rally in Mumbai but all the spotlight was on a red Cadillac driven by Akash and Anant Ambani, sons of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. The rally was organised by the Vintage & Classic Car Club of India (VCCCI). Akash took the wheel at Horniman Circle, accompanied by his brother, and drove upto Shivaji Park after which their entourage drove the car back.

Nitin Dossa, president, VCCCI, reveals that the Cadillac is a model from the early 1940s. “There are only four such cars in India. The two of them were also keen on the Bentley 1947. Akash liked that car a lot,” says Dossa, a veteran of the country’s vintage car circuit.

The Ambani family owns several vintage models. Dhirubhai Ambani was believed to be an enthusiast, who owned four Cadillacs. In all , the family reportedly owns over 180 cars, including Bentley, Maybach and Bugatti. The Cadillac driven by the brothers, however, didn’t belong to their personal fleet. Dossa says, “I spoke to Akash. He says that they will be back next year with their vintage cars.” Apart from the Ambani sons, United Phosphorus’s Varun J Shrof f drove The Hudson 1933 during the rally.
