Akshay Kumar’s heroine became overnight star after her debut film, rejected Shah Rukh Khan’s movie, left Bollywood within six years. Who is Farheen?

Her first film made her an overnight sensation. Audiences were gushing over her svelte figure and resemblance to ‘Dhak Dhak’ girl Madhuri Dixit. However, Farheen’s moment in the spotlight was short-lived. Farheen made her cinematic debut opposite Ronit Roy in the 1992 film Jaan Tere Naam. The movie became a blockbuster and several of its songs - Kal College Bandh Ho Jayega, Romance Period etc became huge hits. She was soon offered a role in Shah Rukh Khan’s Baazigar. However, she rejected the offer.

She told Times Of India in 2014: “I turned down Baazigar opposite Shah Rukh as the dates clashed with a film I was doing with Kamal Haasan. After Kalignan, I was flooded with offers from the South and I accepted them because the money was good and they wrapped up fast…” she explained.

The role eventually went to Shilpa Shetty. As luck would have it, Kalaignan, which had Kamal Haasan in the lead was a box-office disaster, while Baazigar was a runaway hit.


After establishing herself in the film industry, Farheen successfully balanced projects across both Bollywood and the South Indian cinema landscape. During this phase of her career, she appeared in a number of movies opposite Akshay Kumar, including the popular titles Sainik, Dil Ki Baazi, and Nazar Ke Samne. Her filmography also featured notable productions such as Agni Prem, Fauj, and Tahqiqaat, among others, which helped strengthen her presence on screen.

As her acting career progressed, Farheen's personal life also took a significant turn when she developed a relationship with former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar. The two first crossed paths in 1993 and quickly grew close. At the time, Manoj was navigating difficulties in his existing marriage. Their bond deepened, and in 1994 they entered into a private nikah ceremony, choosing to keep the marriage away from public attention because his divorce proceedings had not yet been finalized.

After her marriage, Farheen adopted her husband's surname and came to be known in some circles as Farheen Prabhakar. Despite their public backgrounds, she and her husband, former Indian cricketer Manoj Prabhakar, have largely chosen to stay away from the spotlight and lead a private life. The family is based in Delhi, where they live together with their two sons as well as Manoj's father. The household also includes Manoj's elder son, Rohan, from his previous marriage, along with Rohan's wife.

A few years later, in 1998, Farheen decided to step away from the entertainment industry and leave Bollywood behind. Together, she and Manoj built a family and became parents to two sons, Raahil and Manavansh.
