Akshay Kumar to play war hero in patriotic film 'Gorkha'

Akshay Kumar is one of the busiest actors in Bollywood who keeps giving back-to-back hits and rarely takes a break. While there are already many exciting projects starring Kumar lined-up for release, the actor has added another one to the list.

The actor on Friday announced his new film 'Gorkha', in which Kumar will be playing the role of a war hero. The actor said that he feels honoured to play the role of an icon.

"Sometimes you come across stories so inspiring that you just want to make them. #Gorkha - on the life of legendary war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo is one such film. Honoured to essay the role of an icon and present this special film," the actor wrote on Twitter.



The film is based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a legendary officer of the Gorkha regiment of the Indian Army (5th Gorkha Rifles). Ian Cardozo had fought in the wars of 1962, 1965, and most notably in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. The film will be directed by National Award winner Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.
