Akka OTT release date details: When and where will Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte's period gangster series stream

Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte are coming together for Akka, a period gangster thriller that takes viewers into a fictional South Indian town where a powerful sisterhood of women controls an underground criminal empire. Set in the 1980s, the Netflix series has been generating curiosity since its first look, particularly for its women-led power structure and the face-off between its two central actors.

After being in production for nearly three years, Akka is now nearing its streaming debut. The series went on the floors in November 2023 and is being produced by YRF Entertainment with debutant writer-director Dharmaraj Shetty.

When and where will Akka stream?

As per reports from Bollywood Hungama and Movies Singapore, Akka will be available on Netflix on 30th October 2026.


However, the streaming platform and YRF Entertainment are yet to officially confirm the premiere date. The production house's official page lists the series as "Coming Soon", while the October 30 date has been reported as its expected release date.

The series is being positioned as one of YRF Entertainment's major streaming projects and marks Keerthy Suresh's debut in the OTT space.

What is Akka about?

Akka is set in the fictional South Indian town of Pernuru in the 1980s. Unlike a conventional gangster drama, the series is built around a matriarchal society where women control the town's political, social and economic power.

There are a powerful breed of women in this world called the Akkas. They run a gold smuggling ring underground and hide their wealth and power behind a facade of loyalty, fear and violence.

The sisterhood also has a female army trained to protect its territory and interests. Their tightly controlled world begins to come under pressure when a mysterious outsider arrives in Pernuru with a personal vendetta against them.

Instead of confronting the Akkas directly, the outsider begins exploiting weaknesses within their organisation. The power structure is challenged as rivalries and divisions begin to arise . The conflict escalates into a larger battle of revenge , survival , and control .

Keerthy Suresh's OTT debut

For Keerthy Suresh, Akka marks a significant milestone, as it is her streaming debut. She stars alongside Radhika Apte, with both actresses playing central roles in the story's power struggle.

The first look and teaser previously offered glimpses of the series' period setting and its unusual criminal world. Keerthy is at the centre of the Akkas' powerful sisterhood, while Radhika is part of the conflict that threatens its established order.

Tanvi Azmi is also part of the cast in a key role.

YRF Entertainment's latest Netflix project

Produced by YRF Entertainment, Akka is directed by Dharmaraj Shetty in his first directorial project. Aditya Chopra, Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani are associated with the production.

The series also marks the third web-series collaboration between YRF Entertainment and Netflix India. Their earlier collaborations include The Railway Men, starring R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu and Babil Khan, and Mandala Murders, featuring Vaani Kapoor, Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Surveen Chawla.

With its 1980s setting, women-led criminal network and central conflict between powerful characters, Akka brings together a period world and a gangster story around an unusual matriarchal power structure.
