Akhanda 2 to stream online soon
Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has completed its theatrical journey after releasing in cinemas worldwide on December 12, 2025. Directed by Boyapati Srinu, the sequel arrived on the big screen amid strong expectations due to the success of its predecessor. While the film received a mixed response from critics and audiences, it continued to draw attention for its grand scale, spiritual themes, and Balakrishna’s commanding screen presence.

The film is now set to begin its digital run. Netflix has officially confirmed that Akhanda 2: Thaandavam will start streaming on the platform from January 9, 2026. The movie will be available in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, marking a pan-Indian OTT release. The confirmation comes after brief confusion when the streaming platform temporarily removed and later restored the release date on its catalogue, triggering speculation about a possible delay.

Akhanda 2: Thaandavam Plot

The sequel builds on the universe established in the 2021 blockbuster Akhanda. The narrative revolves around Akhanda Rudra Sikandar Aghora, a powerful Aghori warrior who returns to confront a looming national crisis. The plot centres on a biowarfare threat planned during the Maha Kumbh Mela, aimed at destabilising India by attacking what is portrayed as its spiritual core.

As the crisis escalates, scientist Dr. Janani becomes crucial to the nation’s survival after developing a vaccine to counter the biological weapon. Her breakthrough makes her a prime target, forcing Akhanda to step in once again to protect her. The film unfolds through intense confrontations across spiritual, political and border landscapes, positioning Akhanda as a one-man force against the threat.

Cast, crew and production team

Akhanda 2 features an ensemble cast led by Nandamuri Balakrishna, with Samyuktha, Aadhi Pinisetty and Harshaali Malhotra playing pivotal roles. The supporting cast includes Poorna, Kabir Duhan Singh, Viji Chandrasekhar, Saswata Chatterjee, Achyuth Kumar, Sangay Tsheltrim and others.

The film is written and directed by Boyapati Srinu and produced by Ram Achanta, Gopi Achanta and Ishan Saksena under the banners of 14 Reels Plus Entertainment and IVY Entertainment, with Zee Studios distributing the project. Thaman S composed the music and background score, which emerged as one of the more positively received elements of the film.

Box office performance and reception

Despite a strong opening, Akhanda 2: Thaandavam saw its box office momentum slow over time. According to figures reported by Sacnilk, the film collected approximately Rs 93.65 crore net in India after 23 days. The third-week collections dropped sharply compared to earlier weeks, with daily earnings stabilising at lower levels as the film moved closer to the Rs 100 crore mark.
