Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much-awaited sequel, Akhanda 2, has made a thunderous entry at the box office, proving once again that the actor’s star power remains unmatched in Telugu cinema. The film hit theatres on December 12 after a last-minute postponement caused by financial issues, which pushed its original December 5 release date. Despite the delay and a wave of mixed reviews, the mythological action entertainer has managed to pull massive crowds on its opening day.

Akhanda 2 box office collection day-wise

Even before its official release, Akhanda 2 had created strong momentum with sold-out premiere shows across India and overseas. That early buzz translated into impressive footfalls once the film finally arrived in cinemas. Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, Akhanda 2 released in five languages: Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.

According to early estimates shared by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected around Rs 30 crore on Day 1. This figure marks Balakrishna’s biggest opening to date and comfortably surpasses the Day 1 numbers of his previous release, Daaku Maharaaj. As per Sacnilk, Daaku Maharaj minted over Rs 25 crore on the opening day.

A major share of the collections came from the Telugu version, which alone earned approximately Rs 29.5 crore on the opening day. The remaining versions contributed modestly to the total, with the Tamil version collecting around Rs 35 lakh, Kannada Rs 4 lakh, Hindi Rs 1 lakh and Malayalam Rs 1 lakh.

While critics and sections of the audience have expressed divided opinions about the film’s storytelling and execution, the opening numbers suggest that these reactions have not dampened audience curiosity. Trade observers believe that the high-energy action sequences, Balakrishna’s commanding screen presence and the film’s mythological undertones have played a key role in drawing crowds to theatres on day one.
