Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dons a royal avatar in first look of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan: 1’
The movie will be released in two parts. PS 1 will be released on September 30.

The epic historical fiction is based on acclaimed Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. The movie set against the backdrop of the Chola Dynasty has dialogues penned by B Jeyamohan.

This is the fourth collaboration of Aishwarya with maverick film-maker Mani Ratnam. The model-turned-actress made her debut with Ratnam’s ‘Iruvar’ in 1997 and went on to act in ‘Guru’ (2007) and ‘Raavan’ (2010).
In September last year, Aishwarya took to Instagram to announce the completion of the shoot of part 1 of the film. The same year, after pandemic restrictions were eased the actress shot an elaborate song for the film in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. The song was shot with over 400 junior artists.
The grand scale, cast and crew, and storyline make ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ one of the most anticipated films of the year.
The film also stars noted south Indian actors, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram, and Prakash Raj among others.
