Ahead of Diwali, techie turns from coder to firecracker seller, floats ‘4 to 9’ shop
As the Festival of Lights approaches, the firecracker market is booming with profit opportunities. Seizing the moment, one tech professional decided to capitalize on the demand by opening his own firecracker shop in his hometown.

Posting on the platform X, Ray revealed photos of his temporary firecracker shop, which he set up in his hometown with two friends.
He explained his schedule: mornings dedicated to his tech job, coding from 10 am to 4 pm, followed by working at the shop from 4 pm to 9 pm daily.
Ray’s post, which read, “All set for opening up the (temporary) cracker shop this Diwali with 2 other friends. 10 to 4 office/coding and 4 to 9 cracker shop,” quickly garnered thousands of views and comments on X, with many applauding his entrepreneurial drive and sharing humorous responses.
In replies, Ray mentioned that he and his friends had obtained the necessary permits for their shop. He also noted that people in his hometown, which he did not name, are hesitant to buy from online stores, so he expects steady business leading up to Diwali. Commenters responded enthusiastically, with one writing, “Wow, nice side business,” and another remarking, “Nice, not a lot of margin but it’s fun.”
This year, Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, falls on October 31. The celebrations span five days, beginning with Dhanteras and concluding with Bhai Dooj.
