Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, who donated a whopping $84.5 million to Girl Scouts of the USA and 29 of its local branches, is determined to make the world a better place with her kindness.

With her charity, the 52-year-old's record-breaking donation became the biggest individual contribution ever to the 110-year-old organisation. It is said to be the largest donation the Girl Scouts have received from an individual since their founding in 1912.

The funds will help the organization recover from the impact of the pandemic, which drove down membership. The youth members of the Girl Scouts fell dramatically during the pandemic, dropping nearly 30 per cent from about 1.4 million in 2019-2020 to just over 1 million in 2021-2022.

The Girl Scouts plan to support volunteers and staff, make camp properties more resistant to the impacts of climate change, improve science and technology education for youth members and develop diversity and inclusion programming to make their troops more accessible.

Scott's generous gift to the Girl Scouts has made her people's favourite philanthropist. Fans from around the world took to Twitter to praise the Princeton University graduate.

In April 2019, Scott pledged to give away most of her fortune, which largely comes from her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. At that time, Scott had shared the terms of her divorce in a tweet.

Her post read, "Happy to be giving him all of my interests in the Washington Post and Blue Origin, and 75% of our Amazon stock plus voting control of my shares."

Since then, Scott has stayed true to her word since. She often keeps her followers up-to-date about her charities through her official blog on the online publishing platform Medium.

According to reports, she has donated an estimated $12 billion to more than 1,200 non-profit organisations. She has donated large, unrestricted grants to different kinds of organisations, though her gifts have had a special focus on racial equity.

This March, Scott revealed in a Medium post that she donated nearly $3.9 billion to as many as 465 non-profits since June 2021. This year, she also made a blockbuster $275 million donation to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates.

Scott has given away more of her wealth faster than any other billionaire. Currently, she ranks 41st on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a net worth of $28.4 billion, and 30th on the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list with a fortune of $34.4 billion.

On the personal front, Scott is dissolving her two-year-long marriage with high school science teacher Dan Jewett. In September, she filed for divorce in Washington State's King County Superior Court from her second husband, whose profile was also removed from the website of The Giving Pledge, a group that asks billionaires to donate more than half of their wealth in their lifetime.

According to the report, Jewett did not contest the divorce and the division of property has already been determined in a prenuptial agreement. Scott's divorce comes three years after she and Jeff Bezos announced they were splitting following 25 years of marriage.

Scott and Jewett tied the knot in March 2021. The news about their marital problems first came out in public when the science teacher's name suddenly disappeared from Scott's philanthropic pledges.

Scott shares four children with Bezos.
