After Team India’s WTC final defeat, Twitter asks: ‘Who is the better captain, Kohli or Dhoni?’

In the last few years, the Indian cricket team hasn't been able to score a win in International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments, which has led to fans questioning Virat Kohli's captaincy skills. A debate started involving Kohli and former Team India captain MS Dhoni on Twitter after New Zealand on Wednesday wreaked the sixth successive defeat on India in ICC tournaments by winning the World Test Championship final.

After the Kiwis bagged a major win, the cricket fraternity and fans globally were quick to praise New Zealand, while netizens in India hopped on social media to remember Dhoni and the wins he scored for the country.

This was Kohli's fourth unsuccessful attempt to lead the team to an ICC title, the previous being the 2019 One Day World Cup when they lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals in Manchester.


This defeat in the final of the WTC sent Twitter-warriors in thinking mode as they began to weigh Kohli's captaincy and Team India’s poor luck on the pitch when it came to winning grand titles.

While the skipper said that he is not in favour of deciding the best Test team on the basis of a single match, adding that the finals of the WTC should be a 'best-of-three' contest, Twitter was already busy presenting some facts from Dhoni's captaincy era.

"Captaincy is not everyone’s cup of tea," one person wrote on Twitter alongside a photo collage from Team India's past wins under Dhoni's leadership.
