Days after Netflix found itself facing a lawsuit over an offensive remark about Bollywood’s ‘Dhak Dhak’ girl Madhuri Dixit, in one of the episodes of the hit sitcom ‘The Big Bang’ Theory', many Bollywood celebs have come out of the woodwork to call out the makers of the sitcom for the insensitive comments.

In an interview with ETimes, Jaya Bachchan condemned the derogatory remark and said, “Is this guy (Kunal Nayyar) insane? Badi gandi zubaan hai (he is very uncouth). He should be sent to the mental asylum. His family should be asked what they think of this comment.”

‘Rangeela’ star Urmila Matondkar also found the comment objectionable. She stated that she hasn’t seen the episode and therefore cannot comment on it, but added that, if true, this displayed the “cheap mentality”.

Dia Mirza described the remark as “disrespectful and distasteful.”

Author-political activist Mithun Vijay Kumar has slapped a lawsuit on the streaming giant and asked them to take the episode off the air. He has also threatened legal action if the request is not complied with.

In the legal notice, Kumar pointed out that the remarks made by the Raj were not just offensive but defamatory. He also added that such remarks reeked of misogyny and perpetuated harmful stereotypes against women.

In a press release, Kumar said entertainment companies must be held accountable for the content they produce or broadcast. They must take care not to offend the sensibilities of the communities that constitute their target audience. “Ultimately, streaming services have a significant influence over the content that is consumed by millions of individuals, and with this influence comes a responsibility to ensure that the content they offer is respectful, inclusive, and free from harmful stereotypes," said the author.
