While Rocky marked Sanjay's official launch as a hero in Bollywood, it wasn't his first appearance on screen. He had previously featured as a child actor in Reshma Aur Shera in 1971. However, both films were directed by his father, the legendary actor-filmmaker Sunil Dutt.


Despite achieving fame and success over the years, Sanjay has often admitted that losing his mother at such a crucial stage of his life left a lasting void.

During a special "Celebrating Sanjay Dutt" episode of Indian Idol Season 14, the actor reflected on his relationship with his parents. The conversation began after contestant Ananya Paul delivered a moving performance.

Judge Shreya Ghoshal asked Sanjay about his bond with his father, which prompted him to share a deeply personal memory involving his mother.

Speaking about Nargis, Sanjay said that people often take their parents for granted because they assume they will always be around.



He recalled, "But there was something that my mother had told me that comes to my mind now. She used to tell me to spend time with her, to sit with her, because she didn't know when she would leave, and I would regret not having spent enough time together. Now, I feel that if I had listened to her and spent a few hours with her during the day, maybe today I wouldn't have this feeling."

Looking back, Sanjay admitted that he regrets not paying more attention to that advice. He said he sometimes feels that if he had spent just a few more hours with her every day, he might not carry the same sense of loss today.

His comments struck a chord with many viewers, as they talked about a feeling that many people experience after losing a parent, wishing they had spent more time together when they had the chance. The actor's reflection was not only about grief but also about the importance of family.
