Adult-only resorts in Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore are also in great demand.
For their 10th anniversary recently, a Delhi couple got together with eight close friends and jetted off to the adults-only Komandoo resort in the Maldives for a four-night getaway. The idyllic escape had it all: Water villas, sunset cruises, snorkelling, and most importantly; no distractions by way of kids.
Rimsha Bahl, 29, who went to Phuket with her girl gang this summer had a similar ask: It must be a ‘no kids-allowed’ resort. “This is the first trip of this kind I’m taking. I just want to have a good time without any noisy children around,” she says.
51% of these travellers are between the age of 25-34. No children please
‘Adults-Only’ is currently the second highest used filter (almost 15 per cent) on our website used by Indians after honeymoon (20 per cent),” says Arun Ashok, country manager, India, for an Australian travel website Luxury Escapes which specialises in specially curated packages. “We are definitely seeing an uptick in appeal for such products,” he says.
Indian travellers are increasingly opting for adult-only resorts. They prefer escaping to the best relaxing holiday/ staycation options to rejuvenate from their daily routine, says Daniel D’Souza, country head, leisure, SOTC Travel.
Such resorts are in great demand in South Africa, in Koh Samui in Thailand and few destinations in Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore, says Karan Anand, head, relationships at Cox & Kings. While there are few such properties in India, adults-only resorts abound overseas, which explains why most of such travel is of the outbound variety.

Adult-only holidays include champagne brunches/candle lit dinners, sunset cruises and couple spas. Less cookie cutter holidays “For international vacations, there has been a rise of 22 per cent in search queries for adult-only resorts in the UAE, Mexico, Maldives, Thailand and the Caribbean islands. On the domestic front, there is interest from travellers looking for similar getaways in Goa, Jaipur, Coorg and hill stations,” says Rajnish Kumar, co-founder of travel and hotel booking e-commerce website Ixigo. Fifty one per cent of these travellers are between the age of 25-34.
“It’s exciting to see a new concept growing in India that allows travellers to opt out of ‘a cookie cutter holiday’ and enjoy customised travel experiences. We are hoping to see a significant uptick in the coming months,” says Vipul Prakash, chief operating officer, MakeMyTrip.
Thomas Cook India has witnessed a significant growth in the demand for couple-only holidays in India, says Rajeev Kale, country head, Holidays, MICE, Visas - Thomas Cook India.

When the landscape of Iceland showed up in a Bollywood movie some time back, many were prompted to ask if the sequence was shot on location, or if the backdrop was a result of computer generated graphics. That’s how unreal Iceland can be. The popularity of this European nation has been on a steady rise, prompting a national discussion about applying curbs on the number of tourists permitted to visit. Best to tick this one off the bucket list, before your name slips on to a waiting list of visitors.

True, the country has a checkered past, enmeshed in a long history of violence. But nothing like tourism to change a nation’s image and fortunes. Earlier this year, the country’s tourism department signed a multi-million dollar branding deal with English football club Arsenal, putting the country’s tourism tagline on player jerseys. The deal quickly became controversial as Rwanda is one of the world’s poorest countries and marketing monies are frowned upon. But soon the number of UK visitors surged, claimed officials. Something did the trick. Either the campaign, or the country’s stunning national parks and wildlife.

It’s been voted as one of the best cities to live in the world. Not exactly unknown, the city does tend to lose out to the hordes that prefer the shinier, bigger cities of neighbouring United States. But by itself, Vancouver, a west coast seaport in British Columbia, is not just one of Canada’s densest, most ethnically diverse cities, it is also a thriving metropolis with a buzzing art, music, food and theatre scene. Surrounded by mountains, it isn’t too hard on the eyes either.
