Dhurandhar 2, the highly awaited follow-up to the 2025 blockbuster, arrived in cinemas on March 19 and initially generated strong buzz. The action drama received enthusiastic reactions from several prominent filmmakers, including Ram Gopal Varma, Rakesh Roshan, and S. S. Rajamouli, all of whom praised the film’s scale and ambition. However, not everyone shared this excitement, as actor-turned-politician Ramya voiced strong dissatisfaction with the movie.

Sharp Criticism of Storytelling and Execution

Ramya expressed deep disappointment after watching the film, describing it as an exhausting experience rather than an engaging one. She suggested that what could have been an exciting cinematic venture instead felt unnecessarily prolonged and tedious. According to her, the narrative lacked grip, making it difficult for viewers to stay invested. She also implied that the film would be better suited for a streaming platform, where audiences could watch it at their own pace rather than committing to a full theatrical experience.

Technical Aspects Under Fire

Her criticism extended to multiple technical departments. She pointed out that the direction, dialogues, editing, background music, and performances did not meet expectations. In her view, the film appeared rushed and poorly refined, as though the team failed to adequately prepare before its release. She also compared the sequel unfavorably with its predecessor, noting that the earlier installment had generated excitement and audience engagement, while the new film lacked that same energy and failed to evoke a similar response in theatres.

Remarks on Performance and Presentation

Taking a dig at lead actor Ranveer Singh, Ramya questioned the widespread claim that he carried the film. She humorously remarked that his appearance, particularly his hairstyle, stood out more than his performance. In her opinion, even this aspect did not add value but instead became a distraction in several scenes.

Concerns Over Excessive Violence

Another major point of criticism was the film’s intense and exaggerated depiction of violence. Ramya highlighted how a wide range of everyday objects were used as weapons, creating scenes that felt over-the-top and unrealistic. She suggested that the filmmaker seemed focused on continuously escalating the brutality in each sequence, which eventually reduced the impact and made the scenes unintentionally comical rather than shocking.

Mixed Reception Despite Strong Earnings

Ramya ultimately described the sequel as a major letdown, especially when compared to the first film’s success. She also criticized the film’s thematic undertones, calling them outdated. Her remarks come amid a wider debate among viewers, some of whom have similarly questioned the film’s messaging.

Despite the criticism and divided opinions, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has performed impressively at the box office. The film has reportedly crossed ₹330 crore globally, with domestic earnings exceeding ₹240 crore, proving that commercial success can coexist with critical polarization.
