For Jyotika, a successful marriage is not about one partner constantly making sacrifices for the other. Instead, she believes both partners need to support each other as their professional and family responsibilities change. During a conversation with Zoom TV, the actress explained that she sometimes chooses to take on less work so that she can manage responsibilities at home. When Suriya has to leave for work, she makes sure the household and children are taken care of. The arrangement works both ways, with Suriya stepping back when she has an outdoor shooting schedule.“I think a marriage is all about balance,” Jyotika said, emphasising that support must come from both sides. She added that they ensure at least one parent is at home with their children, describing their relationship as one that needs to work “hand in glove” and in a balanced way.
Why Suriya and Jyotika moved from Chennai to Mumbai
After spending decades in Chennai, the couple relocated to Mumbai with Diya and Dev following the COVID-19 pandemic. In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Suriya explained that the move was partly about giving Jyotika the opportunity to reconnect with her family and rediscover professional opportunities.“I’ll be very open,” Suriya said, recalling that Jyotika had moved to Chennai at 18 or 19 and lived there for 27 years. During that time, she was with him and his family, while giving up her career, friends and the lifestyle she had in Bandra. Suriya said the pandemic prompted them to consider a change, especially as Jyotika felt her career had plateaued and the scripts she was receiving had become repetitive. He also recalled that they started 2D Entertainment because they saw a lack of women-centric films.
