Actor Satish Kaushik cremated in Mumbai, Anupam Kher & Javed Akhtar bid tearful adieu

Kaushik passed away on his way to a Gurugram hospital in the early hours of Thursday.

Kaushik's cremation was held at Versova crematorium in Mumbai around 8.30 pm.
Actor-director Satish Kaushik, who passed away following a heart attack, was cremated on Thursday as his near and dear ones bid an emotional farewell.

The film-maker's last rites were held at the Versova crematorium in Mumbai around 8.30 pm in the presence of his family and close friends, including Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, lyricist Javed Akhtar, and a number of B-town celebrities.

The 66-year-old passed away on his way to a hospital in Gurugram in the early hours of Thursday. Kaushik was in Delhi to attend a Holi party but started to feel uneasy. On his way, he suffered a heart attack. The doctors tried to resuscitate him, but couldn't save him.


After completion of the post-mortem at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Delhi, the actor's body was flown to Mumbai. His mortal remains were then taken to his Mumbai residence in Versova at around 6.30 pm, according to news agency PTI.

Several personalities from the entertainment industry, including directors David Dhawan and Subhash Ghai, actors Salman Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan, and actresses Tabu and Shilpa Shetty, visited Kaushik's residence to pay their respects.

Other celebrities like actor-director Farhan Akhtar along with his singer-wife Shibani Dandekar, director Rakesh Roshan, actor Raj Babbar along with wife Nadira, producers Boney Kapoor and Indra Kumar, actors Sanjay Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ishaan Khatter, Johnny Lever and Vikrant Massey, actresses Saiyami Kher and Tanvi Azmi, action director Sham Kaushal, singers Ila Arun and Anu Malik also visited his house to offer condolences.

After the cremation, Kher took to social media to share a post and wrote, "Death ends life…. Not of relationships.. ��". He also posted a video of him giving a head massage to Kaushik.


Akhtar Sr also posted an emotional poem for his late friend. Two days before his demise, Kaushik attended a Holi bash hosted by the lyricist and his actress-wife Shabana Azmi at their Mumbai residence.


The Haryana-born film-maker was raised in Delhi's Karol Bagh and later moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting.

In his over four-decade-long career, Kaushik has donned many hats - actor, director, writer, comedian and producer. He was deeply loved and respected in the Hindi movie industry.

He won hearts with his comic timing in classics 'Mr India' as Calendar and 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro' as Tarneja's assistant.

Kaushik also tried his hand at direction and helmed known projects like 'Tere Naam', 'Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain', 'Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai', 'Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai', and his latest 'Kagaaz'.

Kaushik is survived by his wife Shashi and daughter Vanshika.
